China Guardian 2016 Spring Auctions fetch RMB 2.19 billion

After an exciting five days of auctions, the China Guardian 2016 Spring Auctions concluded with a total of 2.19 billion yuan in sales on May 18.

Sales volume of Grand View Night sets a new high

The session, Grand View: Chinese Painting Highlight – Classical, collects 45 items of high quality Chinese Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasty items, including four pieces of national first-class cultural relics.

The transaction volume of classical Chinese painting and calligraphy ranked in the top three. Zeng Gong’s calligraphy work, The Jushi in Regular Script, set a record high of 207 million yuan.

The total sales volume of this session was 667 million yuan.

On the other hand, the total sales volume of the session, Grand View: Chinese Painting Highlight-Modern, reached 447 million yuan. Ten pieces of the 87 lots in this session were sold for more than 10 million yuan.

Huang Binhong’s Conversation in Pavilion and Fu Baoshi’s Mountain Ghost were sold respectively at 56.35 million yuan and 51.75 million yuan.

Before the auction, Huang’s work had already attracted a lot of attention from collectors.

With the support of customers, China Guardian put forward a special session: Ode to Gallantry - Painting and Calligraphy by Celebrated Politicians, Scholars and Artists, which gathered more than 150 items from the period of the Republic of China.

After five hours of exciting bidding, the total volume of this session was 60,96 million yuan. Hong Yi’s former collection, Motto Collection, was sold for 6.44 million yuan, much higher than its estimated price of 1.2 million yuan.

Chinese 20th century art and contemporary art fetch more

China Guardian's oil painting section this year was renamed "Chinese 20th century art and contemporary art" for marketing purposes.

Eventually, the total transaction volume of this section reached 201 million yuan.

Wu Guanzhong’s New Paris was sold at the highest price of the session of 20th Century & Contemporary Chinese Art Evening Sale, reaching 22.42 million yuan.

The session, '85 New Wave Art, put forward 11 oil paintings. Yuan Qingyi’s Spring Is Coming is the highlight and sold for 21.27 million yuan.

This section featured rare treasures for collectors and was highly anticipated. Its total sales volume reached 250 million yuan.
