The 48th China Guardian Quarterly Auctions raised a total of 194 million yuan in sales by the time the auction concluded at the Beijing International Hotel in Beijing on April 2.
Nearly 6,000 items went under the hammer during the three-day auction, including Chinese paintings and calligraphy, 20th century and contemporary Chinese art, porcelain, jade, artworks, rare books, coins and stamps.

The total sales volume for “Modern Chinese Painting and Calligraphy (I)” was 14.25 million yuan. Zhang Daqian’s Character and Banana Leaves was sold for 264,500 yuan. Qi Gong’s calligraphy work sold for 598,000 yuan. Huang Binhong’s landscape painting Cottage, Pine Tree, and Mountain sold for 414,000 yuan, much higher than its estimated price.

The total sales volume for “Modern Chinese Painting and Calligraphy (II)” was 22.39 million yuan. Xie Zhiliu’s painting Character fetched 575,000 yuan. Qi Baishi’s painting Vegetables was sold for 517,500 yuan. Calligraphy works also produced exciting results. Guo Moruo’s Calligraphy was sold for 207,000 yuan. Feng Youlan’s Calligraphy was hammered at the highest price of 120,750 yuan.

The session “Charm of the Important Porcelains” carefully selected more than 100 pieces of chinaware. A Ru glazed zun from the reign of Emperor Qianlong of Qing Dynasty was sold for 448,500 yuan.
