After three days of auctioning, the 28th China Guardian Quarterly Auction successfully concluded on Dec 19 in Beijing. The total turnover of the event was 185 million yuan ($29.15 m).
In the Porcelain and Works of Art session, the relatively unexciting lineup delivered some satisfying moments of high-stakes bidding drama. A pair of blue-glazed bowls produced during the Yongzheng Period of the Qing Dynasty, was sold at 943,000 yuan ($148,582), four times its estimated price. Another impressive item was the Dauguang Period blue and white dish, which was sold at 1.3225 million yuan in the porcelain session.

In modern Chinese painting and calligraphy sessions, Xu Beihong's Eagle was sold at a high price of 2.185 million yuan. Wu Guanzhong's Plum Blossoms, painted in 1993, was auctioned at 1.725 million yuan. In addition, Xu Beihong's Horse was sold at 1.38 million yuan. It was collected by an experienced collector. At the contemporary painting and calligraphy session, Liu Dawei's Character and Horse was sold at the top price of 4.14 million yuan, followed by Wang Mingming's Landscape for 2.3575 million yuan. At the Ancient Chinese painting and calligraphy sessions, Hu Zao's Landscape, Jin Nong's Plum, Wang Jian's Landscape and Fu Shan's Calligraphy respectively sold at 1.84 million, 1.667 million, 1.4375 million and 1.3225 million yuan.

The Exquisite Craft of Treasure-Silver Pot of Japan, first launched at the Japanese gold and silver pot session, ended with a total turnover of 8.5 million yuan. The highly anticipated Penglai Gold Pot was sold for 1.6675 million yuan. The Fine Silver Kettle, another high quality pot, sold for 920,000 yuan.
In addition, the Classical Furniture session witnessed an amazing successful bidding rate of 18 percent by lot, and the highest bidding belonged to A Jumu Corner Cabinet, an early Qing furniture sold at 667,000 yuan, followed by A Huanhuali Sedan Chair Box for 506,000 yuan.
