China Guardian is to present the sale of its 29th Quarterly Auction which will take place in Beijing on March 24. Featuring over 5,000 lots, the collection includes Chinese paintings and calligraphy, porcelain, furniture and works of art, as well as ancient books.
The Chinese paintings and calligraphy are clearly predominant in this auction. It includes 200 pieces of modern paintings produced by authors from Guangdong and Fujian.
The biggest attraction is Character by Huang Zhou, a piece from the 1970s when his artistry grew and matured. His paintings are known for simple yet bold lines, and a perfect blend of Western perspective and Chinese abstract painting approaches. Other highlights include calligraphy works of running script by Qi Gong, a top Chinese calligrapher, painter, scholar and art connoisseur.
Also included in the auction are a porcelain brush pot produced in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and a copper stove from the early Qing Dynasty (1644-1912), which are known for their antiquity and elegant style.
For the furniture sale, China Guardian has over 100 lots to offer, ranging from commonly-seen ancient chairs and tables to baby carriages from the late Qing Dynasty and well-preserved beech furniture. All the lots are a welcome addition to fans of traditional Chinese furniture.
In addition, letters collected by Ma Shiliang, the son of a well-known Qing General Shaoying, are of special significance as they give a glimpse of the turbulence and turmoil of the late Qing Dynasty.
