China Guardian reported new sales record for its Seasons Auctions series, which was held on September 10-11, 2005 in Beijing.
The two days’ auctions of over 2000 pieces of Chinese paintings, ceramics and works of art brought in a total sale of RMB120 million (roughly US$15 million), the highest ever since the launch of the Seasons Auctions series (previously known as the Weekend Auctions).
The focus of the auctions was an illustrated album, Chaoshutun and Nannona (LOT 68), by celebrated modern master Cheng Shifa (b.1921) which sold for RMB11 million. This marks the highest record of any single piece of work by the artist in an auction. Based on his personal experience in Yunnan Province in 1957, Mr Cheng created this album based on a folk story of the Dai minority group. Another highlight of the auction was a painting by Lin Fengmian which sold for RMB3.245 million (LOT 50).
This was the third session of China Guardian Seasons Auctions for the year 2005. The last session will be held in early December in Beijing.
