At 8 o’clock on May 22, the Spectacular Night of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Treasures, a joint night session of ancient, modern and contemporary paintings, made its debut at China Guardian 2011 Spring Auction. The total turnover exceeded 1 billion yuan. The Towering Pine and Cypress Painting with Four-Character-Line Couplet in Seal Script, the largest-sized work of Qi Baishi was the focus of the auction. Its initial bidding price was RMB 88 million yuan and was finally brought home by a collector at auction site with RMB 425.5 million yuan after half an hour and nearly 50 bidding. It thus created a record high of Chinese modern and contemporary painting and calligraphy.

On May 21, Day 1 of the furniture session of China Guardian 2011 Spring Auction continued to create glory. 80 auction items at the two sessions of Immersed in Classics: Living Room Collection of Ming Dynasty Style Furniture and Inheriting the Past, Embracing the Present: Fine Ming-style Cabinets were all sold out with a turnover over 288 million yuan, a world record of furniture auction during a single season.
The three red stoneware sessions held on the same day also made a huge success with a total turnover over RMB 140 million yuan. The Pot with Handles cooperated by Gu Jingzhou and Han Meilin won the laurel with RMB 11.5 million yuan.
