After four days of auction, China Guardian Quarterly Auction-2010 September came to a perfect conclusion on Sept. 21. Finally, the whole auction session closed at a total sale of RMB 392 Million yuan. In particular, the Chinese painting and calligraphy section reached a transaction amount of RMB 300 million yuan. Many masterpieces and large-size works in the Modern and Contemporary Chinese Painting and Calligraphy section were sold at high prices and an average transaction rate of over 90%. Portrayal of Mount Yunlong created by Li Keran was sold at a high price of RMB 4.704 million yuan, nearly 6 times the low estimated price, followed by Landscape of Lakes and Mountains which is an early work of Lu Yanshao and was sold at the price of 4.368 million yuan. The Mount Yandang, a horizontal scroll masterpiece also created by Lu Yanshao, was bid at RMB 3.248 million yuan. Xiaofeng by Feng Dazhong ranked first at RMB 1.064 million yuan. For the Classic Chinese painting and calligraphy section, Cogongrass Cottage in Sparse Woods by Dong Qichang was sold at RMB 3.248 million yuan and got the first place.
The Porcelain and Works of Art section broke the record at a transaction amount of RMB 57.8 million yuan. For the porcelain section, “Qing Kangxi Blue Glaze Jar” ranked first at 2.8 million yuan. Former collection items by famous collectors were favored at the auction. A pair of “Qing Yongzheng Blue-and-White Twig Flower Cups”, a former collection of the famous Shanghai collector Mr. Qiu Yanzhi, was sold at the high price of RMB 694 thousand yuan. In the works of art section, Qing Qianlong white jade beast-surface grate stove was sold at RMB 728 thousand yuan. “Qing Jade Dragonhead Belt Hook” was finally sold at RMB 280 thousand yuan, 14 times the low estimated price. The market continued to show a passion for rhino horns, ivory and other resource-based works. “Early Qing Rhino Horn Dragon-pattern Cup” was finally sold at RMB 1.176 million yuan..
The rare books and manuscripts section reached new heights in both the total sale and transaction rate, with a transaction amount of RMB 29.24 million yuan and a transaction rate of 83%. Songs of Buddha, Tathagata and Bodhisattva inscribed in the 18th year of the Yongle reign of the Ming Dynasty ranked first at RMB 0.896 million yuan. Manuscript of Yan Fu (a version from the Qing Dynasty) stood out and was finally transacted at a high price of RMB 840 thousand yuan after fierce competition among several buyers from an estimated price of only RMB 20,000 yuan.
