China Guardian’s 21st Quarterly Auction will open with over 4600 fine works of art in three categories: Chinese Painting and Calligraphy; Porcelain and Works of Art; and Rare Books and Manuscripts. In addition, China Guardian Quarterly Auctions will hold a unique charity event called For Haiti – Chinese Oil Painting and Sculpture Charity Auction. This special auction was launched by a group of leading contemporary artists who joined together and donated their artwork in an effort to help the people of Haiti recently hit by a devastating earthquake. All earnings will go directly to reconstruction work in Haiti. The preview exhibitions for China Guardian’s 21st Quarterly Auction and For Haiti will be held March 18–19 at the Convention Centre, Beijing International Hotel. Auctions will take place March 20–22 at the same location.
In the category Chinese Painting and Calligraphy, China Guardian’s 21st Quarterly Auction will include an exceptional group by Shanghai School artists and some fine works of painting and calligraphy recently returned from Japan. There are also an impressive number of top-quality artworks by well-known modern and contemporary Chinese artists that are worth following closely. In Porcelain and Works of Art, for the first time there will be a special concentration on Chinese furniture presenting 30 rare pieces. In addition, some treasures of Chinese porcelain and jade will be auctioned, including a highly sought-after sancai dish with a dragon motif from the Kangxi period and a white jade scepter from the Qianlong period. The Rare Books and Manuscripts section will present a collection of fine old books belonging to Liu Cangrun, including several rare volumes that should not be missed (for individual titles see Chinese text). For Haiti – Chinese Oil Painting and Sculpture Charity Auction will include 30 representative works by Cai Guoqiang, Chen Danqing, Xu Bing, Zeng Fanzhi, Liu Xiaodong, Yu Hong, Sui Jianguo and twenty other celebrated contemporary artists. There will be no reserve price and all earnings will benefit the reconstruction of Haiti.
