On June 28, 2009, the hammer fell marking the successful conclusion of the 18th China Guardian Quarterly Auction. The total turnover of the entire auction exceed RMB 140 million, a record high sale rate. Among the star sales, Chinese Painting and Calligraphy managed to see a total turnover of RMB 95.79 million, with a high sale rate of 84%. Works by renowned artist, Qi Baishi showed a 100% turnaround, with the notable overseas collection painting, Mouse and Cat with Lamp, selling for more than RMB 4.48 million. In 2009, a record six works by Qi sold for new highs and it is the first time this Sichuan painter’s works had a 100% turnover rate, sometimes sale prices exceeding estimates by over twelve times. Also, our Porcelain and Works of Art Sale had a strong showing, with a total turnover of over RMB 41 million, the highest for any of our previous Quarterly sales, with an average turnover rate is as high as 83%.
