The 39th quarterly auctions are scheduled to run in Beijing on Sept. 20 – 23, 2014, with a preview on 17-19 Sept. More than 4,721 items from four categories will be featured - Chinese calligraphy and painting, porcelain, furniture and works of art, rare books and manuscripts going under the hammer.
Chinese calligraphy and painting
The Chinese calligraphy and painting sale will include 11 special auctions, with over 2,000 pieces up for grabs.
The host of Yilinmoxiang will offer Character, by Zhou Sicong (1939-1996), considered as the best works about girls from the Yi ethnic group and Pine, by Jiang Jingguo (1910-1988).
In the Huisushizhen auction, there are many exquisite modern Chinese paintings, including Character by Feng Zikai (1898-1975), Camel by Huang Zhou (1925-1977) and Birds by Huang Yongyu (b.1924).

Collections of Jianlancaolu show the special taste of its owner. Highlights include Zhong Kui the Demon Queller by Tang Yun (1910-1993), Landscape by Huang Binhong (1865-1955), Landscape by Lu Yanshao (1909-1993), Bamboo and Rock by Wu Hufan (1894-1968), Dance People by Ye Qianyu (1907-1995), Chinese Opera Character by Guan Liang (1900-1986) and Character by Feng Zikai (1898-1975).
The host of Yulanshanfang has accumulated rich exquisite works through great efforts. At the auction, you will see the master piece Shrimp by Qi Baishi (1864-1957), an influential 20th century Chinese painter, modern Chinese landscape painting pieces by Chen Dayu (1912-2001), Lu Yanshao (1909-1993), Lin Sanzhi (1898-1989) and Tending Donkey by Huang Zhou (1925-1997).
The masterpieces by the Modern Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Artists session, one of the special auctions, include over 22 masterpieces by numerous prominent Chinese painters, including Qi Baishi, Lu Yanshao, Li Keran, Song Wenzhi, Huang Zhou, Ye Qianyu and Cheng Shifa.
In addition, Chicken and Tending Donkey by Huang Zhou (1925-1997) will be presented. Tending Donkey is one of his early works, which depicts a beautiful Xinjiang girl beaming with pleasure as she watches donkeys. Other highlights include Dance People by Ye Qianyu (1907-1995). The painting fully demonstrates the painter’s great skill in depicting the expression and psychological activity of characters.
Modern Chinese paintings from contemporary ink painting session are all selected by strict criteria. This special auction includes over 280 modern paintings by Wang Mingming, Shi Guoliang, Tian Liming, Jia Youfu, Xu Xi, and Yao Minjing from Beijing and Tianjin; by Jiang Hongwei, Chang Jin, Yao Youxian, Xiao Pin, and Yao Yuan from Nanjing city; Jiang Baolin and Lu Kunfeng from Zhejiang province; by Fang Chuxiong, Fang Xiang and Lin Yong from southeast China; by Peng Xianchen and Qin Tianzhu from Sichuang province. Highlights include Landscape by Jia Youfu (b.1942), Lotus by Jiang Hongwei (b.1957), Character and Landscape by Tian Liming (b.1955) and Character and Horses by Peng Xiancheng (b.1941).

Modern Chinese paintings and calligraphy are an important part of the auction, which include over 900 items. Exquisite works by Xu Linlu, Chen Dayu, Ye Qianyu and Yuan Xiaocen are bound to attract enthusiasm from collectors.

The host of Yisushanfang has been committed to collecting for decades and his collections gained strong popularity among collectors because of their high quality and reliable source. The paintings depicting birds, flowers, rivers, mountains and characters are a feast for collectors. The auction will offer delicate collections of classical Chinese painting and calligraphy, including Eight Characters by Ma Yu and Landscape by Zhu Angzhi.
The show of ancient painting and calligraphy is greatly supported by large number of collectors. Highlights include over 500 items of ancient painting and calligraphy. Landscape by Dong Qichang (1555-1636) and Mandarin Ducks and Wisteria by Ren Bonian (1840-1896) will be presented.
Porcelain, works of art and art literature
The quarterly auction includes three sessions - Porcelain and Art Literature, Fine Works of Art and Snuff Bottle, and Jade and Works of Art.
The highlights include two blue on white vases from the Qing Dynasty, both of which were made during the Kangxi period. A blue on white brush pot with a birds and vines pattern from the Republic of China is worth collecting.

In addition, the other highlighted artworks include a blue on white pot with red bats from the Xuan Tong period, two color ceramic bowls from the period of Dao Guang and Kang Xi respectively.

Fine Works of Art and Snuff Bottle
In this part, bamboo artworks are very impressive. In addition, snuff bottles made of porcelain, jade, amber and agate are offered to collectors. There will be a Buddha show. And in the seal stones section, Zhang Jiru’s work is worth special attention.

For the jade sale, highlights include a pair of female jade figures in violets and a white jade fangzun and inkstone from the Qing Dynasty.
Classical furniture and works of art
In the classical furniture and works of art category of the 39th China Guardian Quarterly Auction, there are over a hundred splendid works presented.

Rare Books
The rare books, and manuscripts sale contains about 16 letters by Lu Hejiu, Wang Xiang, Xu Xiuzhi and Fu Quan from the late-Qing Dynasty. Other highlights include manuscripts by Zhan Guangnian, Bi Ye, Lou Shiyi and Feng Zi and a volume of letters by Huang Yuan, Bi Ye and Cheng Huangmei, which are written in memory Mao Dun, the famous Chinese writer of the 20th century.
In addition, the sixth edition of Hundreds of Famous Generals from the Qing Tong Zhi period is worth attention. This book, written by Ding Richang, a senior officer in the late-Qing Dynasty, contains hundreds of famous generals from ancient China to modern China.

The other highlights include a book of poems by Wang Yingquan, the top scholar in 1718 from the Qing Dynasty, collections of rubbings by Fang Ruo, over 20 pieces of inscriptions from the Wei Dynasty (AD220-265), rubbings of seals from Emperor Huizong of Song Dynasty, Song Dynasty scholar Su Shi, Huang Tingjian and Mi Fu and the famous general Yue Fei. There are also 649 pieces of ancient calligraphy paper that will be presented.
