China Guardian HK 2014 Autumn Auction successfully ended with a total of HKD 343m on Oct 7, 2014. Hu Yanyan, president of China Guardian (HK) said, “The volume of transactions of Chinese painting and calligraphy and 20th century and modern arts stay ahead of other collections and the turnover is slightly over that of the spring auction. And the trade volume of porcelain and jade items has an obvious growth, reaching nearly 100m. Generally speaking, the result is in line with our expectation.”

This auction was held at 10 in the morning on Oct 6 and ended after a total of nine hours, attracting huge enthusiastic collectors. The highlights included Sailing Boats by Pan Tianshou, which was sold for HKD 6.325m; Green and Blue Landscape by Zhang Daqian, HKD 4.37m. Seven-Character Couplet in Running Script by Xu Beihong brought in HKD 3.91m, more than six times its estimated price. Cottages Shielded by Trees by Huang Binhong fetched HKD 2.3m, nearly four times its valuation. And Pomegranates by Qi Baishi was sold for HKD 2.185m, more than two times its valuation.

Classical Chinese Painting and Calligraphy from the Le Yi Studio Collection
In this session, the Attractive Scenery of Wu Shan Mountain and Calligraphy by Wen Zhengming and Zhu Yunming in the Ming Dynasty topped the trading record with HKD 9.027m. Landscape and Figure by Zhang Lu was sold for HKD 5.175m. Five-Character Poem in Running Script by Dong Qichang went for HKD 4.485m, nearly three times its estimation.

The Enchantment of Neoteric Chinese Ink
This section saw a few highlights. The Sun and the Moon-97 by Lou Zhenggang was sold for HKD 1.323m. Moon Rising by Liu Guosong fetched HKD 874,000, more than double its valuation. And Poems from Marco Polo by Xiao Xu raked in HKD 437,000.

In this part, highlights included works with special artistic styles from modern artists. 5.11.93 by Zhao Wou-ki ended the fierce bidding with HKD 10.35m. Aspirations by Chu The-Chun was sold for HKD 8.625m. Colorful Rhyme No.27-Noon Dream by Wu Da-Yu brought HKD 6.555m. Ocean Waves by Wu Guanzhong went for HKD 5.52m.

Porcelain and works of art
This part was the grand finale of the whole autumn auction. Enthusiastic customers packed the auction room and fiercely bid on collections that included jade, porcelain, carved stone and Buddha figures. A Chinese-water-chestnut-type vase in a blue-on-yellow pattern from the Emperor Yongzheng in the Qing Dynasty reached a record high of HKD 27.6m. A ru-type vase in the period of Emperor Qianlong was sold for HKD 13.8m. A pair of enameled bronze vases raked in HKD 5.865m, more than five times its estimated price. A brush pot with ink painting and poems from the Qing Dynasty was sold for HKD 4.945m, more than eight times its valuation.

A Chinese-water-chestnut-type vase
