As the first hit in the Chinese artwork auction season this year, China Guardian autumn auction’s preview kicked off on Nov 17. The day started with the first issue of China Guardian Twenty Years Fine Record, a set of books gathering representative works by China Guardian, which was very popular at the preview.
Seven categories of cultural relics and artworks totaling more than 7,000 lots will be at the sale, including Chinese painting and calligraphy, porcelain, jade craft, oil paining and sculptures, ancient books, watches and jewelry and coins and stamps.

The Grand View session is still the most anticipated part. That night will see a rich collection of ancient paintings and calligraphy, among them a specific auction for the calligrapher Wang Duo, who was a senior scholar during the late Ming Dynasty (1368-1644AD) and early Qing Dynasty (1644-1911AD). Meanwhile, classic works such as Poet at Bridge by Wen Zhengming (1470-1559 ), The Chunhuage Model Calligraphy by Dong Qichang (1555-1636 ) and Pavilions in Snowy Mountain by Wang Hui (1632-1717) are must-sees.
Another feature of the auction for Chinese paintings and calligraphy this time is the concept of “private collections”. Five exclusive art pieces by Pan Tianshou, 1960s masterpieces by Huang Zhou with the theme “The People’s Army” and six masterpieces by Xu Beihong from different creative periods will fully demonstrate the art of collection and the beauty of painting.
As to the private collections, China Guardian will present the 13th “Yisushanfang Studio Collection” where more than 40 exquisite items will be for sale. The deal rate for this session has reached nearly 100% previously.
The China Guardian Twenty Years Fine Record covers a delicate selection of representative works that were on auction from the year 1994 to 2013. A total of seven volumes of artworks and more than 4,000 items have been selected for the catalogue, ranging from ancient paintings, calligraphy, and pottery to bronze mirrors.
Along with the preview, a series of free lectures on relevant collections were given to the public.
The preview will last until Nov 19th and the formal auction will be from Nov 20 to 23.
