The preview of the 41st China Guardian Quarterly Auctions will be held at the Convention Center of the Beijing International Hotel from March 29 to March 31.
The auction, now in its 10th year, will kick off on April 1 and last for three days. More than 5,000 items will be auctioned including Chinese paintings, calligraphy, porcelain, works of art, furniture, rare books, rubbings and manuscripts.
In the past decade, China Guardian Quarterly Auctions have provided collectors with 110,000 antiquities and artworks, setting a remarkable milestone in China’s fine arts market.

Chinese paintings and calligraphy
About 2,300 items will be auctioned in the paintings and calligraphy section of the event.
“Masterpieces by Modern Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Artists” section includes 47 high quality contemporary works, including those of celebrated masters such as Wu Changshuo, Zhang Daqian, Qi Baishi, Huang Binhong, Li Keran and Lin Fengmian.
Character and Landscape by Li Keran is a highlight of this section. The aesthetic and exquisite composition of the painting creates a relaxed, peaceful and ethereal conception of a water town for viewers.

Another highlight is the precious painting Pigeon and Crane by Zhang Daqian, Zhang Shanzi and Yu Fei'an. Apart from the aesthetic and artistic values of the piece, the fame of Zhang Daqian and Yu Fei'an and their firm friendship puts additional credit to this work.

Apart from the above session, there are more must-sees in the standing sections of painting and calligraphy. The pieces are divided into modern and classic categories.
In the Modern Chinese Painting and Calligraphy (II) category, there are nearly 690 items. Huang Zhou’s Tending Donkeys, Qi Baishi’s Plum and Zhang Daqian’s Character and Lotus are top artistic collections that you cannot miss.

Special collection of fans
There are two sections especially designed for fan collectors in this quarterly auction.
“A Collection of Fan Painting and Calligraphy” section will display more than 100 fans that are from individual collectors in Beijing. The patterns and themes of the fan paintings are diversified, including landscapes, characters, people, flowers, vegetables and fruits.
Meanwhile the various textures of fans make this section a feast for the eyes. The fan covers are made of white paper, pink paper, gold, wax and other materials, while for the fans’ frameworks are commonly made of bamboo and wood.
Another fan section demonstrates the beauty of modern Chinese painting and calligraphy on delicate fans. Lu Yanshao’s Landscape, Calligraphy, is a must-see.
Porcelain, jade and works of art
There are three sections in this category, with more than 1,900 items to be auctioned. They are “Porcelain and Yixing Stoneware”, “Arts from the Scholar’s Studio” and “Jade and Works of Art”.
This is the first time that Yixing Stoneware is included in a China Guardian Auction. In the “Porcelain and Yixing Stoneware” section, the porcelain pieces are classified into different groups according to chronology: modern, transnational phase and Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty. Additionally, there will be a special cluster of porcelain tea ware displayed in the auction.
In this section, A Blue and White Dragon Jar from the Ming Dynasty and A Guan-type Vase from the Qing Dynasty are the essential items up for auction that you need to pay extra attention.

The “Jade and Works of Art” section is one of the most eye-catching, with exquisitely designed and beautifully produced items. Artistic pieces made of jade, wood, copper and other materials are included in this section. A Bronze Figure of Guangong from the Ming Dynasty and A Spinach-green Jade Circular Table Screen from the Qing Dynasty are must-sees.
Rare Books
About 600 rare books, ancient letters and stone inscriptions will be shown in this section. Among hundreds of items, over 30 books about metal and stone pieces are garnering high expectations. Most are books about bronzeware and bronze mirrors, both of which have collection significance and academic value. The ancient script Da Ban Ruo Bo Luo Mi Duo Jing by Xuan Zang in this section is a priceless treasure worth your attention.
