A total of 125 million yuan in sales was achieved during three days of frenzied bidding at the 45th China Guardian Quarterly Auctions.
The sales, which included 13 sessions featuring more than 3,000 items, ended on March 28, 2016.

Chinese paintings and calligraphy
About 2,200 items were auctioned in six special sessions in the section for Chinese paintings and calligraphy, namely, A Collection of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy from Dehuatang, Modern Chinese Painting and Calligraphy I, Modern Chinese Painting and Calligraphy II, Contemporary Ink Painting, Modern Chinese Painting and Calligraphy III and Classical Chinese Painting and Calligraphy.
The session, Classical Chinese Painting and Calligraphy, ended with an amazing result on March 28, with a sales volume of 23.18 million yuan. The transaction price of several items was much higher than the estimated price. For example, a fan painting, Viewing the Waterfall, with an estimated price of 8,000 to 12,000 yuan, sold for 520,000 yuan.

Also, a figure painting featuring a sleeping scholar (Sun Wei Gaoyi Tu) by an anonymous painter highlighted the session and sold for 2.53 million yuan.

The 240 items in the session, A Collection of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy from Dehuatang, were provided by a senior collector and gathered a lot of attention. The session eventually concluded with with all items sold and a total volume of 1,615 million yuan.
The other session also achieved good results. What’s worthy of mentioning is that Dong Shouping’s masterpiece of landscape painting, Yellow Mount and Pinus Taiwanensis, sold at a high price of 4.025 million yuan.

Porcelain and works of art
This section of the 45th China Guardian Quarterly Auctions was divided into five special sessions, among which the session, Jade Jewelry and Works of Art, concluded with a total sales volume of 5.93 million yuan. A light greenish white jade tureen with a daisy chain design made during the reign of the Qianlong Emperor of the Qing Dynasty sold for 170, 000 yuan.

The session Porcelain deliberately included about 400 items from the royal kiln and famous folk kilns. A blue-and-white vase with a red dragon pattern from the reign of Emperor Yongzheng of the Qing Dynasty highlighted this session and sold for 5.405 million yuan, more than 50 times higher than its estimated price of 100,000 yuan.

The session, Arts from the Scholar’s Studio, featured all kinds of ink stones matched with different signets, letter papers and study appliances. It concluded with a total sales volume of 4.4 million yuan. An exquisite seal from the former collection of Zhang Xueming sold for 520,000 yuan, the highest price in this session.

Furniture and works of art
About 80 items were presented at the Classical Furniture and Works of Art session during the auction, eventually reaching a 96 percent transaction rate and a sales volume of 1.66 million yuan.
The bian’e, or horizontal inscribed board, is a unique cultural symbol of China. With a history of more than 2,000 years since the Qin and Han Dynasties, bian’e integrates the arts of Chinese calligraphy, traditional Chinese architecture and sculpture. A bian’e inscribed with the Chinese characters “Liu Ying Tang” from the reign of the Jiaqing Emperor of the Qing Dynasty sold for 210,500 yuan.

Rare books and manuscripts
The 45th China Guardian Quarterly Auctions presented 533 pieces in this category, with a total sales volume of 5.17million yuan. The most important item of this session, an original rare book, Puningzang, sold for 310,000 yuan after several rounds of bidding.

Online bidding
Since China Guardian launched online bidding for wines, it’s become increasingly popular among collectors.
About 85 items from the session, A Collection of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy from Dehuatang, were put online for bid. Eventually, seven items were sold, with a sales volume of 500,000 yuan.
