As the novel coronavirus outbreak throws cities around the country into lockdowns and quarantine, China Guardian, a major player in China’s art market, is also proactively shouldering its social responsibility and doing its part to help battle the epidemic that disrupts lives and saps energy of the country.
China Guardian will hold an online charity auction from February 25 to March 3, auctioning a raft of artworks donated by artists, collectors and art institutions from China and abroad, to raise money for front-line medical workers in the battle against the epidemic, announced Hu Yanyan, director and president of China Guardian Auctions Co Ltd, in a letter to the public on Sunday.
This is another charitable effort made by China Guardian, following the company’s donation of 1 million yuan ($142,887.8) in early February through Dongrun Foundation to the special fund for the welfare of the outstanding medical workers in fighting the epidemic and the education of their children, a timely response to the China Association of Auctioneers’ initiative to support Wuhan, the outbreak epicenter.
“As one of the mainstays of China’s art market, we believe that art is the sunlight that can penetrate the darkness, the spring rain that nourishes hearts and minds, and also the power to boost morale. Hence, China Guardian has launched a charity drive, calling for donated artworks or inviting artists to create artworks for the upcoming online auction in early March,” Hu said.
Amid the troubled times, art gives power, dispels pessimism and nurtures hope. Since we sent our message, an increasing number of artists, collectors and art institutes have answered our call and donated works have been pouring in.
